Tuy vậy, vẫn còn nhiều trẻ kém may mắn không được tiếp cận sữa mẹ đẻ trong những ngày đầu đời. Ngân hàng sữa mẹ (NHSM) được thiết lập nhằm tuyển chọn bà mẹ hiến tặng, thu nhận sữa, sau đó xử lý, sàng lọc, và phân phối sữa mẹ chất lượng và an toàn đến các trẻ có nhu cầu. Ngân hàng sữa mẹ đầu tiên ở Việt Nam ra đời tại Đà Nẵng vào tháng 2 năm 2017, đến nay Việt Nam đã có 3 NHSM và 1 NHSM vệ tinh tại Quảng Nam. Bài báo này mô tả tầm quan trọng của việc nuôi con bằng sữa mẹ, nguyên tắc hoạt động và lợi ích của ngân hàng sữa mẹ. Đồng thời, bài báo cũng phân tích các tác động của ngân hàng sữa mẹ lên thực hành nuôi dưỡng trẻ sơ sinh bao gồm: tác động lên kiến thức và thực hành nuôi con bằng sữa mẹ trong cộng đồng, thực hành nuôi dưỡng trẻ nguy cơ cao tại các đơn vị nhi sơ sinh, thực hành nuôi dưỡng trẻ sơ sinh khỏe mạnh, cũng như vai trò của ngân hàng sữa mẹ trong đại dịch COVID-19.
English summary: Breast milk is the best nutrition for newborns and infants as well as the most effective intervention to reduce child mortality and morbidity. However, there remains unfortunate newborns who do not have their mother’s own milk in the first few days of life. Human milk bank is a service to recruit donors, store raw milk, pasteurize raw milk, screen the milk before and after pasteurization, and deliver pasteurized donated milk to newborns in need. The first human milk bank in Vietnam was established in Da Nang hospital for women and children in February 2017. Until October 2020, there are three human milk banks in Vietnam and one service delivery network in Quang Nam. This paper aims to describe the importance of breastfeeding, principles and benefits of a human milk bank. This paper also analyzes the impacts of human milk banks on newborn feeding including breastfeeding knowledge and practices in the community, feeding practices for high risk newborns, feeding practices for healthy newborns and the role of human milk bank in the COVID-19 pandemic.
