2. History

On June 13, 1980, the Government Council issued Decision No. 181/CP on the establishment of the Institute of Nutrition under the Ministry of Health. The regulations on the organization and operation of the Institute of Nutrition were promulgated by the Minister of Health in Decision No. 300/QD-BYT dated January 22, 2015.

On June 7, 2002, the Minister of Health issued Decision No. 2193/QD-BYT establishing the "Center for Food and Nutrition Training" under the Institute of Nutrition. And the functions and tasks of the Nutrition and Food Training Center are promulgated by the Director of the Institute of Nutrition in Decision No. 05/QD-VDD dated 04/01/2016 on the promulgation of regulations on functions and tasks for faculties, departments and centers of the Institute of Nutrition.

3. Functions and tasks

- Focal point in organizing and participating in continuous professional training, professional skills and research methods on nutrition and food for the nutrition network.

- Focal point in organizing and participating in training and fostering professional knowledge, updating information for officials and employees performing nutrition work including community nutrition, controlled clinical nutrition and food safety; and provide training services for subjects according to social needs in community nutrition, controlled clinical nutrition and food safety as prescribed.

- The focal point for enrolling doctoral students, organizing and participating in the doctoral training program in nutrition in accordance with the provisions of law. 

- Participate in cooperation activities on nutrition training and food hygiene and safety with universities, institutes, domestic agencies and international cooperation according to the plan of the National Institute of Nutrition; and participate in international cooperation activities to develop and expand the scope and content of specialized training in nutrition and food.

- Perform the standing duties of the doctoral training council in nutrition of the National Institute of Nutrition as prescribed.

- Perform other tasks assigned by the Director of the National Institute of Nutrition.

4. Deployment services

- By 2024, 20 doctoral training courses in nutrition have been enrolled. There have been 52 PhD students who have successfully defended their State-level PhD thesis and received the PhD in Nutrition. There are 20 other PhD students who are researching and completing the topic and thesis.

- Continuous training for medical staff of hospitals, local health units and issuance of certificates according to Circular 22/2013/TT-BYT dated August 09, 2013 of the Minister of Health guiding the continuous training for health staffs. Continuous training courses from 1, 3 and 6 months on community nutrition, clinical nutrition - dietetics. There are 3-4 courses per year with 120–160 trainees.

- Training and updating professional skills for preventive health staffs at all levels of nutrition and non-communicable diseases; develop documents and provide nutrition training for staff of intervention programs and projects to improve the nutritional status of the community.

- Participate in coordinating Master's and Bachelor training majoring in nutrition and food safety with medical universities in whole country.

- Training according to social needs; Assessment and certification of basic nutrition and nutrition counseling for trainees in the form of online.
